Showy native vines, Campsis radicans produces bright bi-color red and yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers that attract hummingbirds. Once established in the garden, Trumpet vines are fairly drought tolerant.

CULTURAL: Grow Campsis in a sunny location. Plant in well-drained soil and provide consistent irrigation the first growing season to establish a healthy root system. Trumpet vines require only an annual application of a well-balanced organic fertilizer in the spring. Campsis are self-clinging climbers using aerial roots to attach their long stems to structures, but they will climber better when provided additional support such as wiring, or clipping to the trellis, wall, or arbor. It takes two or three years to establish a strong woody framework of branches before plants begin to flower well.
